BREAKING: Robbery and Shoot-Out in Cerritos, Gunmen Hit, Sheriff On Scene

HMG-CN has been told that a robbery and shooting have occurred near Carmenita and Artesia this afternoon. Several emergency vehicles could be seen near the intersection with Sheriff’s helicopter circling the area.

Artesia is blocked at going east at Shoemaker and likely blocked as far as Marquardt coming west.

One person at the scene told HMG-CN that the suspect was shot, crashed and fled.

At least one suspect has been wounded in a deputy-involved shooting

in the 13200 block of Artesia Boulevard in Cerritos, says Nicole Nishida of
the Sheriff's Information Bureau. A vehicle crashed at the end of a chase at
the location, shearing a fire hydrant and sending a geyser into the air and
flooding streets.

 CERRITOS (CNS) - A man was killed in a deputy-involved shooting in
Cerritos late this afternoon.
   No deputies were injured in the shooting, which occurred about 4:35 p.m.
in the 13200 block of Artesia Boulevard, near Carmenita Road, according to
Nicole Nishida of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.
   The suspect's vehicle crashed in the 17200 block of Pires Avenue, near
the shooting location, shearing a fire hydrant and sending a geyser into the
air and flooding streets, according to the sheriff's department.
   In addition to the deceased suspect, who was pronounced dead at the
scene, a second person -- a woman, according to news reports -- was not hit by
gunfire and was taken into custody, the sheriff's department reported.
   A sheriff's investigator told reporters at the scene that the suspect
was shot when he drove toward a deputy who was investigating a report of
suspicious activity in the area.
