HMG-CN Community Wire

CERRITOS, CA – Two Cerritos boys have been cast as Tom of Warwick in
the upcoming production of the award-winning musical Camelot at the
Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA) on Friday, January 9,
8:00 PM and Saturday, January 10, 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM. The production,
about the legend of King Arthur, is recommended for ages 10 and older.

Eric Han, 12, and Amario McGuire, 9, will portray Tom of Warwick, a
young boy destined to be a knight. He wants to fight for what is right
and gives King Arthur hope for the future.

Han, a Whitney High School seventh-grader, has been featured in the
local productions The Lorax and Stars on Ice. Han will appear in the
Friday night Camelot performance. A fourth-grader at Our Lady of Fatima,
McGuire has appeared in Stagelight Productions’ Peter Pan, Charlie
Brown, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, and Wizard of Oz.
McGuire performs in the Saturday matinee and evening show in
Cerritos.

The 2014-2015 national tour of Lerner & Loewe’s Camelot re-imagines
the tale of King Arthur, Guenevere, and Lancelot. The new production
features the classics If Ever I Would Leave You, The Simple Joys of
Maidenhood, and the title song Camelot. Taught well by Merlin, King
Arthur, with queen Guenevere, rules the kingdom of Camelot with new
ideals, bringing peace to a troubled land. With the addition of Sir
Lancelot to the Knights of the Round Table, one of the most fabled love
triangles of all time ensues. Mordred, the king’s illegitimate son,
catches on and, seeing a kingdom in chaos, attempts to destroy Camelot.

The musical garnered four Tonys and three Oscars. The original 1960
production ran on Broadway for 873 performances and spawned revivals,
foreign productions, and the 1967 film. The original cast album was a
top-seller for 60 weeks in the United States. Camelot, featuring lyrics
and a book by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe, is based on
the adaptation from the T.H. White novel The Once and Future King.
Directed by Michael McFadden, the musical features scenic design by
Kevin Depinet, lighting design by Mike Baldassari, and sound design by
Craig Cassidy.
