Joseph Gatto Memorial Highway Dedication Ceremony this Wednesday

HMG-CN Community Wire
Members of the local media are invited to attend the dedication of the Joseph Gatto Memorial Highway on the one-year anniversary of Joseph Gatto’s still-unsolved murder.  The event will be held in front of a large mural of Gatto, located at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA), which he co-founded in 1985, and hosted by Assemblymember Ian Calderon (D-Whittier), who joint-authored legislation with Assemblymember Jimmy Gomez  (D-Los Angeles) and Senate President Pro Tempore Kevin De León (D-Los Angeles), to create the memorial highway.
Joseph Gatto, the father of Assemblyman Mike Gatto (D-Los Angeles), was murdered on November 12, 2013 at his home in Silver Lake.  Gatto’s murder rocked the Silver Lake community, and LAPD has thus far been unable to develop any solid leads or suspects despite a $50,000 reward being offered for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the murderer.
In the wake of the tragedy, Assemblymembers Gomez and Calderon teamed up to introduce ACR 173, which designates a portion of the Interstate 10 freeway between Interstate 710 and Interstate 5, which is in their respective districts, as the “Joe Gatto Memorial Highway.”
Representatives of the LAPD will be on site to provide the latest information about their investigation.  Several former students of Gatto’s are expected to attend, including soap star Sarah Brown.  The event is open to the public but on-site parking is extremely limited.  Complimentary public parking and shuttle service to the ceremony will be available at St. Lucy’s Catholic Church in Los Angeles.
