This past Monday’s rowdy crowds that resulted with disruptive displays of raw emotion following Mexico’s early-round 3-1 World Cup win over Croatia has prompted members of the Huntington Park Police Department to issue a new warning for Sunday’s game between Mexico and The Netherlands.

Members of the Huntington Park Police Department issued a warning to local residents regarding Sunday’s World Cup Game that will be seen by hundreds of millions of soccer fans across the world via television.

“First and foremost, we are concerned with the public safety of our residents, local businesses and community visitors along with the general public. We want everyone to be able to enjoy this Sunday’s World Cup featuring Mexico safely and securely,” said Lt. Al Martinez of the Huntington Park Police Department.

Martinez said in a statement to Hews Media Group-Community Newspaper on Friday that “as a precautionary measure, there will be a visible presence of police from several agencies, including Huntington Park, LA County Sheriffs and others. This is to ensure that all who come out to watch the game can do so safely. We advise all members of the public who choose to come and watch or celebrate on Sunday to do so responsibly and to respect all laws and local ordinances as any disruptive or illegal behavior that may threaten public safety will be dealt with promptly.”

Martinez specifically said that “within the City of Huntington Park, we are taking the additional safety measure of closing Pacific Blvd, between Florence and Gage Avenues, to all vehicle traffic beginning at 9AM on Sunday. However, shops, stores, businesses and restaurants will be open as normal. Huntington Park PD will monitor activity and reopen Pacific Blvd, as necessary following the game.”

Martinez also said that “we appreciate our community’s enthusiasm for Mexico’s performance in the World Cup, but we want to advise and encourage everyone who comes out to act responsibly so that we can facilitate a safe and enjoyable environment for our public and residents.”
