Two men implicated in a daylong standoff with law enforcement were charged today with attempted
murder, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Jason Edwin Devore (dob 12/10/76), of La Habra, and George Contreras (dob 3/16/95), of Los Angeles,
were each charged with two counts of attempted murder in case VA135565.
Contreras is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow at the Los Angeles County Superior Court in
Bellower, while Devore is expected to appear on June 26 at the Los Angeles County Superior Court,
Norwalk Branch.
The felony complaint includes a special allegation that Devore personally and internationally
discharged a firearm, a rifle, in the commission of the crime.
Deputy District Attorney Andrew Kim of the Crimes Against Peace Officers Section said at the time of
the incident, Devore was being investigated by law enforcement for a series of robberies in the Pomona
area.
On June 10, as authorities attempted to arrest Devore at a Norwalk mobile home park, he barricaded
himself in a trailer. Contreras was with him, the prosecutor said.
During the standoff with sheriff deputies, a series of shots were fired at law enforcement, the
prosecutor said. After several hours, Contreras surrendered to officials. Deputies then fired tear gas
into the trailer, which made Devore leave the home and he was immediately taken into custody.
Prosecutors are requesting that Devore’s bail be set at $3.2 million and Contreras’ at $2 million. If
convicted as charged, they face a maximum sentence of life in state prison.
The case is being investigated by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigation
and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
