Cerritos College Women’s Soccer Team Honored for National Success

The Cerritos College Women’s Soccer team brought home national honors after winning the Division III National Championship.

The team also received awards for individual members of the team. Coach Ruben Gonzalez was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III National Coach of the Year for the second time in a row and three players earned ‘All-American honors’.

Claudia Lopez was named the Most Valuable Player of the state tournament and the NSCAA National Player of the Year. Alexis Carrillo was named First Team All-American and Alyssa Cabral was named Second Team All-American for the second year in a row.

After being recognized at the January 22 Cerritos College Board of Trustees meeting, the team was also presented with certificates of achievement at the Hawaiian Gardens city council meeting on January 28.

Mayor Reynaldo Rodriguez congratulated the team and said, “You have a bright future and thanks to our coaches here you will succeed in life.

Two more players were further recognized at the city council meeting for being Hawaiian Garden residents, Carolina Ornelas and Jasmine Cornejo.
