Voters in the ABC Unified School District have reelected incumbents Lynda Johnson and Olympia Chen as well as challenger Soo Yoo to the Board of Education in Tuesday’s election balloting.

The popular Johnson cruised to victory in the small compact field of just five challengers, while Yoo grabbing second place and Chen taking the final seat.

Candidate Daniel Fierro, of Cerritos, suspended his campaign several weeks ago due to personal and professional reasons and actually ended up in fourth place behind Chen.

Los Angeles Assistant City Attorney Ethan Robinson trailed the field.  For Robinson, this was his first attempt at public office, and the long time Cerritos resident of more than 40 years conducted a grassroots campaign and was impressive in a series of televised candidate debates held over the past several weeks.

Here are the Unofficial Results from the Los Angeles County Registrar Recorders Office:

Lynda Johnson,  3,807, for 28.33% of vote; Soo Yoo, 3,337 votes for 24.83% of vote; Olympia Chen, 3,095 votes for 23.03%; Daniel Fierro, 1,634 votes for 12.16% and Ethan L Robinson 1,567 votes for 11.66%.

“We played this campaign smart and worked hard for the last 80 days, and focused on voter contact.  I am very happy.  I want to thank the voters of the ABC School District,” Johnson said.

Johnson said that she was “grateful” to the “classroom teachers” who “walked in 90 degree heat and was a tremendous asset every step of the way.”

Johnson said she was “excited” and “humbled” by her large margin of victory.  “We worked hard, very hard.  Campaigns are never easy, and I had the best team ever of campaign supporters, friends and family who were with me every step of the way,” Johnson said.

“I am so grateful for the support from the many different organizations, civic leaders and community members in ABC.  Thank you to the voters in ABC for placing their trust and confidence in me by re-electing me to the ABC School Board.  I look forward in continuing the work I have started and will work even harder these next four years,” Johnson told HMG-CN in an email on Wednesday afternoon.

Johnson said that she called Soo Yoo on Wednesday to congratulate her in the campaign.  “Soo worked very hard as well, and I look forward to serving with her in the future,” Johnson said.

Chen will be entering her fifth, four-year term as an elected member of the ABC School Board when she is sworn into office in December.  This will also be Johnson’s first full four year term on the seven member panel.  She won a special election two years ago when then board member Mark Pulido won a seat on the Cerritos City Council.
