NBC Southern California Seeks Local Non-Profit Groups to Compete For $100K, $50K in Grants

NBC4 Southern California announced that it has started accepting submissions for its annual 21st Century Solutions grant challenge in partnership with NBC Universal Foundation this week.

Local groups throughout the Norwalk, Cerritos, La Mirada, Artesia, Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood Downey and throughout Southeast Los Angeles County to participate in the program.

nbc4youIn a statement to members of the media on Tuesday, a spokesperson for NBC LA said that “the challenge welcomes nonprofit organizations to compete for funding in the 10 local markets served by NBC Owned Television Stations for a total of $1.2 million in grants nationwide.”

Jamie Brown, Manager of Communications and Public Affairs for NBC4 said that the network is specifically implementing the grant challenge in Southern California and is inviting nonprofit organizations in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura Counties that qualify to apply.

“After an extensive review process, one organization will be awarded $100,000, and two runner-up nonprofits will each receive $50,000,” Brown told LCCN.

“We are fortunate to be part of such a successful philanthropic initiative supporting local organizations that serve thousands of people who truly need it,” said Terri Hernandez Rosales, vice president of community affairs and communications for NBC4.  “We encourage every group out there with fresh, out-of-the-box programs to share their ideas with NBC4 so we can help strengthen our community together.”

21st Century Solutions supports initiatives designed to address emerging and ongoing community challenges in inspiring ways.  By focusing on social innovation, the program supports nonprofit organizations that address these pressing matters with fresh perspectives. The program will support initiatives in the areas of Civic Engagement; Education; Environment; Jobs and Economic Empowerment; Media Arts and Technology.

Applications must be received by July 31 and winners will be announced by the end of the year.

Brown also pointed out that The 21st Century Solutions Grant Program is being implemented locally by the 10 NBC Owned Television stations serving Chicago, Connecticut, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, San Diego, San Francisco Bay Area, and Washington, D.C.
