(Camarillo, CA)  Nearly 600 fire and law enforcement personnel have been assigned to the Spring Fire that started near Camarillo on Thursday morning.

Some officials are now warning that this wildfire has the elements of becoming a “monster fire.”

As of 4:30 p.m., there are 96 fire engines, six helicopters, five dozers and dozens of hand crews on the fire.  Worst for officials is that the Spring Fire is at ZERO containment, and the fire appears to have branched out into at least two areas.

Firefighters have responded from the VCFD in addition to firefighters from Oxnard, Ventura, Santa Paula, Naval Base Ventura County, Cal Fire, Orange County, Los Angeles County and the City of Los Angeles.

Law enforcement partners include the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office and the CHP.

The weather through the remainder of the week may be a sign of things to come for the summer of 2013 and experts are now claiming that California is at a huge risk a wildfires.

Evacuation centers have been set up at the Calvary Community Chapel in Camarillo and Thousand Oaks Community Park. The Ventura County Fire Department reports that recreational vehicles were ablaze in the Camarillo Springs area and several local television news channels in Southern California have been reporting live from the scene since the blaze broke out.

Along with heat, there are gusty winds and very dry conditions in place, and the Moorpark area is currently under evacuation.

According to AccuWeather Western Forecasting Expert Ken Clark, “I can’t remember seeing this magnitude of Santa Ana winds this late in the year.”

Winds of 30-40 mph are not helping matters. This magnitude of wind can quickly fan the flames of fires.
