A horrific scene played out on Florence Avenue in Downey early Sunday morning when two men were stabbed and shot to death outside of George’s Restaurant and Bar.

According to several sources, a fight occurred in the parking lot of the popular local hangout between the victims and suspects and the argument escalated into violence.

“On Sunday, March 17, 2013, at approximately 2:00 a.m., Downey Police responded to the location regarding a call of a fight and stabbing. Officers arrived at the scene and found two male victims, both in their early 30’s, each suffering from stab and gunshot wounds. Downey Paramedics transported the victims to a local hospital where both victims were pronounced dead,” Downey Police Lieutenant Mark McDaniel said in a statement released to the media late Sunday.

“A physical altercation occurred in the parking lot of the restaurant between the victims and suspects. The altercation between both parties continued out onto Florence Ave. where one of the suspects brandished a handgun and shot both victims. The suspects, who are only described as males at this time, were last seen fleeing the location westbound on Florence Ave in unknown vehicles,” Lt. McDaniel said.

Downey City Councilman Alex Saab told Los Cerritos Community Newspaper in an interview that he knew one of the victims who died in the incident, but would not disclose his identity.  “I will tell you that our Downey Police Department officials are going to find who was responsible and to bring them to justice,” Saab said.

“We are committed to having a safe community and we are all saddened by the events that took place at Georges,” Saab remarked.

LCCN has been also told from at least two sources that one of the victims was a family member of the owner of the bar.

This case is being investigated by the Downey Police Department and the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
