This weekend marks the celebration called “Holi” that will bring thousands to celebrate “the Festival of Colors” at Excelsior High School Stadium this Saturday, March 16th.

During the “Holi” celebration at Alondra and Pioneer Boulevard in Norwalk, members of the Indo-American, and of all faiths and ethnic groups will be attending the daylong celebration that marks the arrival of spring and the passing of winter.

Event organizers say that “the festival breathes an atmosphere of social merriment. People bury their hatchets with a warm embrace and throw their worries to the wind. Every nook and corner presents a colorful sight. Young and old alike are covered with colors red, green, yellow, blue, black and silver.”

here will be nonstop live music from great bands, yoga, mantras, dance, cuisine, and the throwing of dry colors on friend and foe alike.

Holi has long traditional linked with several “legends” and is celebrated with special importance in the North of India. It solemnizes the love of Radha and Krishna. The spraying of colored powders recalls the love sport of Lord Krishna and His devotees.

Organizers of the event in Norwalk say that “the color, noise and entertainment that accompany the celebration of Holi bears witness to a feeling of oneness and sense of brotherhood. The festival brings home the lesson of spiritual and social harmony.”
