A Lakewood High School student has gone missing and law enforcement officials have issued a formal alert in order to lfind the missing teenage girl.

On Monday, at approximately 2:50 P.M., Destiny Shorter, a 15 year-old African American female who attends Lakewood High School left school and did not arrive home.

“She is a missing critical (individual) because she has the mental capacity of a second grader,” said Detective Delgadillo from the Lakewood Sheriff’s Department late Monday night.

Shorter was last seen wearing a red jacket, white shirt, blue jeans, and she had a pink backpack. She was given a Long Beach Transit bus-pass and she may have boarded a bus near Lakewood High School. It is unconfirmed if she actually boarded a bus or walked away from the school.
