NBA Player Matt Barnes pleads no contest in two misdemeanor cases

TORRANCE – Former Los Angeles Laker Matt Barnes pleaded no contest today to two misdemeanor charges of unlicensed driver and resisting arrest, the District Attorney’s Office announced.

Barnes, 32, was charged in June with driving with a suspended license. When Manhattan Beach police tried to arrest him on July 30 on an outstanding warrant in the first case, he allegedly resisted.

Deputy District Attorney Don Syn with the Torrance office today filed one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.

Barnes, who recently signed with the Clippers, was not present in court. His plea was entered through his attorney, who produced proof that he had a valid license. He pleaded no contest to an amended unlicensed driver and resisting arrest.

He was sentenced by Judge Burt Pines to two years summary probation, ordered to complete 30 hours of community service and to attend 13 sessions of counseling with a private therapist.
