Cerritos Mayor Jim Edwards Column: The CCPA is celebrating a special anniversary season

By Mayor Jim Edwards
City of Cerritos

Legendary balladeer Engelbert Humperdinck opens the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts’ 2012-2013 Season with concerts on August 18 and 19. Humperdinck has a marvelous voice and he has enchanted audiences at the CCPA on several occasions, including during the theater’s inaugural season in 1993. Another highlight of the new season will be a concert by pop star Neil Sedaka in celebration of the CCPA’s 20th Anniversary on January 13, 2013.
In addition to pop, country, rock and classical music concerts, the CCPA’s 2012-2013 Season also offers an outstanding lineup of comedy, dance and Broadway shows. The theater also offers value-priced Memory Lane, Classical, Rob Kapilow’s “What Makes It Great,” and Broadway Subscription Series. To view video clips of many of the performers, visit the CCPA’s website at cerritoscenter.com and click on the 2012-2013 E-Catalog link under the Quick Links section. The CCPA’s website also offers a link to the theater’s Facebook page where you can “Like” the venue and find the latest news, events and videos. You can also find links on the website to follow the CCPA on Twitter or view videos of past performances on YouTube.
Many Cerritos residents have shared the pride they take in having a world-class performing arts center located in their hometown. They also enjoy the theater’s free, convenient parking and the friendly service provided by the CCPA’s staff. The venue is as beautiful today as when it opened nearly 20 years ago as the staff has done a great job with maintenance and keeping it looking brand new.
The CCPA has also become established as an elegant and memorable place for special events. Dozens of couples have been married at the CCPA and the venue has been the site of many celebrations such as high school proms and anniversary and birthday parties.
The theater has also gained renown as an outstanding location for filming. A few of the productions filmed at the CCPA include a Honda commercial, the prom scene in the romantic comedy “She’s All That” and episodes of television shows such as “Chuck” and “Boston Legal.”
Experiencing high-quality live entertainment can be one of life’s greatest joys and I hope to see you at the CCPA throughout the exciting 2012-2013 season!
As always, I encourage Cerritos residents to call me at City Hall at (562) 860-0311 or to send me an e-mail through the City’s website at cerritos.us and share your suggestions, concerns and questions. I am pleased to talk with Cerritos residents and work with you toward the betterment of our wonderful community.
