Deputy Francisco Enriquez charged with perjury

LOS ANGELES – A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy has been charged with perjury and filing a false police report after he allegedly falsely claimed he discovered drugs in a patrol car after transporting a suspect, the District Attorney’s Office announced.

Francisco Enriguez, 36, who turned himself in Friday on a felony complaint for arrest warrant, was ordered to appear Oct. 18 for arraignment at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center, Department 30. He was released on $45,000 bail.

Deputy District Attorney Geoff Rendon of the Justice System Integrity Division is prosecuting the case.

On Oct. 7, 2009, Enriquez and two other deputies conducted a traffic stop and arrested a male and female. Enriquez wrote in a report that he transported the female to Century Regional Detention Facility and discovered drugs in the patrol vehicle after the female suspect was removed.

Following the alleged recovery of drugs from the patrol vehicle, Sheriff’s personnel conducted a parole search of the couple’s residence. During the search, Enriquez allegedly recovered additional drugs.

Rendon said the female suspect was driven to the station by another deputy, not Enriquez. Enriquez is charged in case BA399959 with one count of perjury in a probable cause declaration and one count of filing a false report.

If convicted, he faces up to four year, eight months in state prison.
