Hawaiian Gardens Veterans Memorial Contract Awarded

The Hawaiian Gardens City Council awarded a low bid of $495,336 to Southbay Landscaping, Inc. of Inglewood to construct a new Veterans Memorial Plaza located at Civic Center Drive and a new public library service memorial located at the Public Library Plaza on Carson.
In his report to the council, Community Development Director Joseph Colombo said the city has received a grant in the amount of $150,000 that will be used for the new two memorials. Councilmember Reynaldo Rodriguez commented he was glad to see the memorials would soon be getting underway. He said originally the idea was to build the memorials together, but that was later changed to have them separated.

In other business the council authorized the firm of White Nelson Hartzheim LLP to conduct a three-year audit of the city’s fiscal services beginning immediately. Funds in the amount of $45,000 were allocated and are currently available to the Finance Department budget.
The council also approved a resolution placing a lien on property where trash pickup fees are delinquent. If the property is being rented the lien will be added to the landlords tax bill.
Finance Director David Sung told the council the city has been notified from the city’s waste hauler, Consolidated Disposal Services, Inc. there were various rubbish accounts in the city that have not paid for their trash pickup. He said Consolidated has made “reasonable” efforts to collect the fees and charges due them, however there remain approximately 64 accounts that need to be paid totaling $21,202.82.
The council also approved an agreement with Clean Slate Inc. to provide Tattoo
Removal Services for the city. Clean Slate, a non-profit organization, was founded in 1995 utilizing laser technology to provide quality and affordable removal
services to low income communities. The company has partnered with the city since 2010.
The agreement is for one year with the city council having the right to terminate the agreement at any time providing Clean Slate with a 30-day notice.
The services will be billed monthly, not to exceed $33,780 annually.
Services will be offered at the Lee Ware Recreation center located at 22300 Wardham Ave in Hawaiian Gardens. On the thirds Saturday of each month from the hours of 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
