Today, Los Cerritos Community Newspaper has published hundreds of internal emails between embattled Los Angeles County Assessor John R. Noguez and controversial Arizona tax agent Ramin Salari.

Both Noguez and Salari are the focus of a wide ranging investigation by members of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office of Public Integrity over “influence peddling” and other “pay to play practices.”

Los Cerritos Community Newspaper was the first media outlet in Southern California to report on the massive probe back in early February.

“After careful consideration, we have decided to publish hundreds of emails that we received from the Los Angeles County Assessor’s Office during that past three years between Assessor Noguez and Mr. Salari,” said Hews.

“The public deserves to see firsthand how Mr. Noguez and Mr. Salari conducted themselves during the past several years,” said Hews. It is quite astonishing to see how Mr. Salari treated people within the office, he acted like a assistant assessor”.

“We are committed to providing 100% accuracy in our coverage into the activities of the Los Angeles County Assessor’s office, and we have dedicated thousands of hours of time in our series of articles on the current probe,” Hews said.

Hard copies of the emails will also be made available to credentialed members of the media on Friday beginning at 12 p.m.

Interested members of the media can contact Reporter Randy Economy at 562 407-3873 for more details.

  • Incredible says:

How can these people actually get up and go to “work” in the morning. This is a total outrage.

    What did you expect….

  • Helena Hernanez says:

I heard Mr. DA Cooley say he should resign. No way, he needs to join the Bell guys in jail. We property owners want our tax money back. What a crook!

  • Jason Frater says:

I would like to thank your publication for bringing these details to light. We the people need more outlets like yours to shed light on corruption.

    • Brian Hews says:

Thanks Jason, we try our best. Tell a friend and an advertiser we are free and rely solely on ad revenue to operate the paper!

LA assessor corruption case may not be isolated. A house I sold in Huntington Harbor area (an affluent area in Huntington Beach) in 2002 (before the market takes off) for $710k is now assessed for only $458k. This house did not appear to be resold according to Zillow website and the value of this house by Zillow assessment is $1.17M. This 3500 sqft house is paying less property tax than my current residence of 2100 sqft. How can this be possible, if not corruption?

    • Brian Hews says:

We will check that out thanks!

      • Clara says:

Being inexperienced with newspaper posting, I wonder if I should remain anonymous with my comment. Is it too late to do that? Let me know if you need more details about my story. Thanks for fighting against the corruptions.

  • Concerned says:

Great reporting to LCCN. Will Mr. Schenter also be implicated? I highly doubt he was only doing it for the Noguez campaign. I’m sure he was personally benefitting.

  • Roberto says:

The investigators have collected all the files and computers, but they have not looked into the main contact “vehicle” used by Noguez and his handlers. “Throw aways”. Prepaid phones that you can you can use and never have to worry about it being traced back to you. When Noguez was the Mayor of Huntington Park, they used these phones to coordinate and conspire. From my friends who work for HP tow, they tell me that there were Ferrari’s, Lamborginis, and Bentleys that would come and take Suki, the owner of HP tow to lunch, so that they could use his connection to Noguez to benefit them financially by having their property taxes dropped. In return Noguez helped HP tow get contracts, Bell Gardens, Compton, Lynwood, and many others in the last 18 months. This is an outrage, our community is being taken advantage of, by the people we elected to protect us. Stop the corruption.

  • Great reporting work!

  • Jim Anderson says:

This is clearly undue influence. The reason is simple. All of these questions/complaints that Ramin Salari are easily handled at lower levels. In addition, as a tax appeal specialist, Salari should know the answers to 75% of his questions. I suspect that he just wants people to bow & scrape to him to show his close relationship with Noguez.

  • No Way says:

Noguez will NEVER RESIGN. If he did it is an admission of “GUILT.” These emails are “the smoking gun.”

  • Catherine says:

Have you ever considered about including a little bit more than just your
articles? I mean, what you say is important and all.

Nevertheless imagine if you added some great visuals or video clips to give your posts more,
“pop”! Your content is excellent but with images and videos,
this site could undeniably be one of the most beneficial in its niche.
    Very good blog!
