Burglary Victim Hit by Gunfire in Norwalk near 605 Freeway at Telegraph Road

By Brian Hews

A search is underway in Norwalk after Sheriff Deputies responded to a gunshot victim call at around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night on a local freeway.
According to Lt. William Evans of the Norwalk station, deputies arrived on the north bound 605 Freeway, at Telegraph Road when they contacted the victim who had a gunshot wound on the left arm.
Evans said the victim told officers that his parents were burglarized by three male blacks who attempted to pry open a window to their residence.
“The suspects were startled by the residents and immediately ran away. One of the residents followed the suspects to their vehicle as the suspects drove toward him and attempted to run him over,” Evans said in a statement to the media on Thursday morning.
Two family members then got into their own vehicle and chased the suspect vehicle northbound on the 605 freeway.
The suspect vehicle then exited the freeway at Telegraph Road, and stopped at the end of the off ramp. The victim got out of his vehicle and approached the suspects on foot.
Evans said the rear passenger of the suspect’s vehicle also got out and fired one round at the victim, striking him on the arm. The rear passenger got back inside the suspect’s vehicle, which fled westbound on Telegraph Road and out of view.
CHP officers from the Santa Fe Springs office immediately arrived at the scene of the shooting, contained the area, and notified L.A. County Fire/Paramedics and Norwalk Sheriff’s Station.
The victim was transported to St. Francis Hospital in stable condition. No other victims were injured.
Evans said no other information was available to the media other than “the investigation is ongoing.”
